Short Breaks in Norbury, Norbury is a conservation village situated in the South Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s an idyllic rural hamlet where time seems to stand still. There are several working farms within the village and on its fringes. It’s hard to believe that less than a century ago Norbury had a population of over 500 people, enough to have 2 public houses the Red Lion and the Sun Inn.
Today the Coach House Norbury inhabits the building that was the Sun Inn for several hundred years. It is nestled in the centre of the village, opposite All Saints Church and its ancient yew tree which is one of the 50 oldest yews in the country at around 2850 years old.
The landscape is majestic with the Long Mynd stretching out across the Eastern horizon of the Upper Onny Valley and the Stiperstones ridge running parallel on the western horizon. The magnificent avenue of 200 year old beech trees marches up Linley Hill just behind Norbury and the Shropshire Way proceeds down this ancient route less than a mile away.
If you are interested in walking, cycling, photography or nature then this is the location for you. The only one of the Shropshire County Hotels situated within the AONB is also dog friendly so if you are bringing your four legged friend you can rest assured that you will get a warm welcome in the Coach House.

The Coach House is proud to hold 2AA rosettes for culinary excellence, the AA breakfast award and is also the holder of a very rare 5/5 score for food from the Hardens guide. The young chef Harry Bullock has been making big waves in the Shropshire dining scene and his award winning food delivered in a laid back restaurant is the epitome of relaxed fine dining and the perfect place for short breaks in Norbury.
Norbury is less than 5 miles from quirky Bishops Castle and is within 17 miles of the bustling market towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury. It is less than 3 miles from the Welsh border and within easy striking distance of Welshpool and Newtown. In between are a myriad of country houses, castles, gardens and nature reserves so whilst the location may seem remote there is no shortage of things to do.
